GENERAL OVERVIEW
Fibromyalgia is a disease of the Central Nervous System with no cure and a lot of symptoms that affects over 10 million people.
This means your nerves are hypersensitive. It is characterized by widespread pain and fatigue. So, all patients with Fibromyalgia
have Chronic Fatigue. Fibromyalgia is a chronic arthritis-like condition.
TREATMENT OPTIONS
- Medicine
- Diet
- Exercise
- Sleep
- Relax
- Skincare
- Alternative Therapies
Medicine is variable by the patient, depending on your symptoms. Keep in mind most Fibromyalgia patients are sensitive to medicine,
but there are still medicines you can take. Lyrica and Cymbalta are the most widely prescribed medicines, but if you can not take
those there are pain relievers, muscle relaxers, and allergy medicine.
For diet try to eat healthy. For sleep try to get at least 8 hours of sleep/night and on a somewhat routine schedule. The routine
schedule is hard so it does not have to be exactly the same time everyday but within a range of only two - three hour difference each
night.
For exercise physical therapy is a good place to start. A combination of land and water is beneficial. Warm water aquatic exercise
works very well. 88 - 92 degrees is best. Alternative Therapies can help with relaxation and pain. I personally am a fan of these.
They may even be part of your exercise routine. For instance Water Pilates combines the benefits of exercise and alternative
therapies in one. Alternative Therapies include:
- Pilates and Yoga (Can be done on land or in water).
- Massage Therapy
- Supplements such as Corvalen
- Acupuncture (I have not tried this)
Discuss with your doctor to find the treatment plan that works best for you. You must go to a Rheumatologist, since Fibromyalgia is a
rheumatic condition. You can check the National Fibromyalgia Association Doctor List to find a doctor.
